As you may have heard, there is a Universal shortage of thermal till paper. Thermal till paper is a material widely used in PDQ machines and cash registers. Most of these types of machines will not operate without a roll installed. There is a shortage of the thermal coating chemical that creates this type of paper.
The main chemical suppliers were shut down by the Chinese government due to environmental reasons. This supplier took more than 60% of the world’s supply of thermal coating chemicals.
Many companies are now being placed on allocation for the supply of thermal rolls. For those who have not placed orders in the past, many are unable to get any supplies, or are placed at the end of a very long waiting list. The outlook remains cautious and prices are inevitably increasing due to the situation.
It is advisable to ensure that you have an adequate stock of thermal rolls for PDQ machines, tills, epos systems, touchscreen models, and any product that requires thermal paper for the foreseeable future. Availability to suppliers looks like it will continue to be difficult, and prices will rise.
The worst scenario is for you to be unable to use your credit/debit card machine, or be unable to issue receipts to customers. If you use a twin roll cash register, you could turn off the receipt function, and operate it only with the receipt issue only facility on request. This would at least save the use of thermal paper.
We retain a large stock of thermal rolls for pdq machines, the most popular being 57x30mm 57x40mm. The most popular thermal rolls for cash registers are: 44x70mm, 44x80mm, 57x57mm, 80x80mm
We are sure that this problem will be resolved in due course, we know not when, but hopefully later in 2018. We sell thermal till rolls – please head to the till rolls page.
